You may choose to assign a default optional search limit for a search profile, or not. The default optional search limit is automatically highlighted in the Search drop-down list when the patron opens the list to choose a search limit. If no optional search limit is configured as the default optional search limit, the first search limit in the Search drop-down list will be highlighted when the patron opens the list.
An enforced search limit cannot be assigned as the default optional search limit.
The behavior of the default limit may be affected by how the browser used with Searching is configured. The first time a patron starts a browser, and points to a search profile, the designated default optional search limit will be highlighted in the Searching drop-down list. If the browser is set to remember form data, then each time the browser is started, the most-recently highlighted search limit is highlighted in the Searching drop-down list. If the browser is not set to remember form data, the default optional search limit for the search profile is highlighted.
For information on specifying the default optional search limit for a search profile, see Configuring search limits for a search profile.
